ABOUT DOM
Dom is an award-winning presenter and personality. He made his debut on network television in 2005.
He is currently the official announcer for ONE Championship, Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organisation and biggest sports media property in the world.
Dom is the former original host of E! News Asia and is a former Channel [V] International VJ. More recently, he was also the original host for syndicated radio chart show Asia Pop 40.
Other notable television appearances have included Dom as Task Master on The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition in 2021, judge on reality television show Supermodel Me from 2012 to 2015 as well as Asia’s Next Top Model in 2016 and also as one of several celebrity contestants on season 2 of Celebrity Car Wars in 2017.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Dom Lau started his career after being approached, at the age of 14, by a modelling scout in Hong Kong where his first professional job was a TV commercial for Coca Cola in 1996. Following this, he continued to feature in numerous print ads, runway shows and TV commercials across Asia before making his break in 2005 when he debuted on network television. It was here that Dom spent 5 years gaining immense popularity and fame across Asia, as “VJ Dom”, presenting on Channel [V], STAR World, and STAR Movies, which are all part of the Fox International Channels parent company.
In 2010 he moved on to host E! News Asia alongside co-host Marion Caunter. E! News Asia is the Asian version of the popular celebrity news show E! News which is part of the NBC Universal Network. It was here that Dom earned the nickname “Asia’s Ryan Seacrest” – a reference to his American counterpart Ryan Seacrest who hosted the original format in the US and who, like Dom, also hosted a radio chart show.
In 2012, during his stint with E! News Asia, Dom hosted the popular weekly football shows, “Tiger Goals on Sunday” & “Goalzone” on Singapore's SingTel on-air platform, Mio TV for which he won, ‘Best Sports Presenter’ at the 2012 Asian Television Awards.
In 2013 Dom signed on to become the face and voice of Asia Pop 40, the first and only regional weekly chart countdown radio show produced in Asia. The show is broadcast to over 90 countries across multiple markets including China, SEA, Australia and New Zealand.
In 2016, Dom caught the attention of Singapore-based martial arts promotion ONE Championship. After a stint as a freelance ring announcer in the “home of martial arts” martial arts promotion, Dom signed on as their full-time official ring and circle announcer in 2017 where he still remains today. He has since become known for his tagline “Here We Go!” which came naturally during a ONE event and has stuck ever since.
THE APPRENTICE : ONE CHAMPIONSHIP
In 2020 it was announced that ONE Championship would commence filming a new reality series, The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition - a reality television program that premiered in Asia on 18 March 2021 and will air worldwide from June 2021. Unlike The Apprentice, it is a new global edition co-owned by MGM and ONE Championship. The show features 16 candidates from around the world competing in both business and physical challenges. The winner will receive a US$250,000 job offer to work directly under ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong for a year as his protégé in Singapore. CEOs from major companies and prominent mixed martial artists will also guest star on the show. Dom’s role as “Task Captain” in the series was to introduce physical challenges for the contestants to overcome – an element of the show not done before.
NOTABLE APPEARANCES
Reporting highlights in his career as an entertainment host include, “Live From The Red Carpet” at both the 79th & 81st Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles as well as the 53rd & 54th Grammy Awards, and 2014 & 2015 ARIA Awards Red Carpet in Sydney, Australia.
Given his extensive experience in the modelling and entertainment business, in 2012 Dom was invited to guest star as a judge on the modelling reality show, Supermodel Me Season 3 alongside host, international Supermodel Lisa S. Distribution of the show spanned 13 countries with an audience reach of about 30 million. Following on from the success of his guest appearance, Dom went on to become a resident judge on seasons 4 and 5 of the series working alongside both host Lisa S and co-resident judge Ase Wang.
In 2017 A+E Networks Asia announced that Celebrity Car Wars for HISTORY Asia would go into its second season. The automotive reality entertainment series would feature 6 popular celebrities as part of its line-up. Dom joined fellow celebrities, Storage Wars’ Jarrod Schulz, comedian Harith Iskander, actress Aerin Yuktadatta, actor Guy Ratchanont and model & actress Phoemela Baranda in the series that saw them tackle and compete against one another in a variety of automotive challenges. After the 8-week road challenge, Dom was announced champion and winner of the series defeating Guy Ratchanont in the final. In 2014, world-class business and travel luggage brand, Tumi appointed Dom as their first Asian Global Citizen. The Tumi Global Citizen campaign honours “successful people who take the road less travelled” and are noted as “influential leaders in their industries”. Dom continues to represent the Tumi brand in Asia today.
SCOOT AIRLINES
Dominic was part of the hugely popular Scoot Airlines, “Stretch or Splurge: Sydney ” 2014 campaign with co-host Paula Malai. The four 12 minute episodes were broadcast on flyscoot.com/sydney and were filmed in the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, South Coast and Sydney. The campaign depicted both hosts travelling and enjoying various adventures around the country. In just 3 months the campaign went viral reaching a total of 2,714,857 eyeballs in just three months.
